April 7, 2016

Meet Tina Silverman, a painter and bead artist located in the Gateway Arts District at the 39th Street Gallery & Studios. Find out how she discovered her art, what drives her, and current works in progress.
How did you discover the medium you currently work in?
It is through a culmination of a lifelong interests in fiber, paint and paper.
How do you define "artist"?
An artist is an individual who is a committed practitioner of the creative process.
How did you discover the Gateway Arts District?
I rent a studio in the Gateway Arts District.
If you could give your younger self a piece of advice about being an artist, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self that “Creating art is work that you love. Get to work!”
What drives you?
I am 66 years old and have a rather short arc before I can no longer do all the things I want to do visually. Now that is a huge motive for someone who loves to look at the world in a state of awe. Focus.
What is your greatest challenge as an artist?
My greatest challenge is that there are so many intriguing ideas.
What are you working on right now?
I am currently working on mixed media portraits with audio.
